MOUNTAIN IRON – Local fiddlers did well at the 31st annual Minnesota State Old Time Fiddle Championships held in Mountain Iron at the Merritt School Auditorium on August 4. Fiddlers and audience members liked the new venue and one-day format so much that it is the start of a new fiddling tradition.

This activity was made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. The MSOTFC thanks this year’s sponsors: Arrowhead Regional Arts Council, CC Riders Snowmobile Club, City of Mountain Iron, and Essentia Health. Also, a big thank you goes out to the Cotton Civic Club for helping make the venue transition from Cotton to Mountain Iron a smooth one.

Holly Marie Weir, left, and Sheila Wilcox were contest organizers and also took the top two places in the Intermediate Division. Submitted photo. Holly Marie Weir, left, and Sheila Wilcox were contest organizers and also took the top two places in the Intermediate Division. Submitted photo.
